This is the page where, sadly, the horses have passed on. These are the sweethearts that make such a huge impression on us for the short time they are here.

This is "Happy", or Old Rotten as he affectionately became known. This was his first day here at the rescue. Starved, louse ridden, sweet itch, and rain rot. He also suffered from dropped suspensories in the front. He was approx. 35 years old with few teeth left.

This is Old Rotten the following winter. Rounded out, happy and free from worry about ever starving again. He was humanely euthanized in March 16 2009 as he was telling us in no uncertain terms that it was his time to go. After much loving, treats and cuddles, we waited till he was laying down before letting him go.
He was a pony that was a one in a million... Rotten would let himself out of his paddock, close the gate behind him and make the rounds of the farm. After spending the day patrolling and grazing he would go back into his paddock and of course, politely close the gate behind him again. I will really miss his sweet visage peering in the living room or kitchen window looking for treats. God speed old man, you will be dearly missed around here!

This is Gracie... she was the mare that started me on my journey to helping horses. Sadly, she did not make it and I will remember her forever. She was a trier and just did not have anything left after her horrific starvation ordeal to pull through. Rest in peace Gracie, you will never be forgotten.

You can see what awful shape he was in when he arrived at the rescue. Poor lad....
