Please feel free to check frequently as to what we have up for adoption! If you have any questions about the horses or ponies, please email or call us and I will be happy to fill you in on any details.
On August 11, 2010 I went to see some horses for sale that a friend had given me a tip about in that some were in not so good condition. What we saw was about 6 horses in good flesh and a mare with a 2 week foal at foot. The mare was a walking skeleton with everything going to her little baby who was still in seemingly good shape.
Needless to say this mare NEEDED to get out of there ASAP so, a deal was agreed to and I picked the mare and foal up the next morning.
SQUEAK is the foal who is a sweet and friendly little soul. Mum is still looking for a handle, but she is beginning to show some spark to her eye and will come over to the fence to say hi now. I absolutely marvel at the ability of these creatures to not hold a grudge against the human race that puts them through such misery.

One of the latest horses to join the gang here at Saving Grace is a 2.5 year old bay pinto colt we christened "SLIPPERS".
He came out of OLEX on the 29th of July, 2010 and was shipped home here the next day. His issues right now are that he has wry hooves that had never seen a trim in the past. A horse prone to that issue needs to have regular trims to keep the angles proper and to allow any problems that crop up to be addressed immediately.
This guy had never seen a farrier. He got his first trim the day he arrived home, was wormed and got his shots. 10 days after arriving he has had his second trim with MUCH progress made on the removal of flares, rolled under hoof and flaps. There is actually a hoof under all that! Due to the incredible pressure of his "caved in" hooves, they have started splitting at the coronet band. Unfortunately because he felt so much better he was trotting and cantering... the result of that was too much for his hooves. Glad he feels better, but now he has to be kept a bit more sedentary!
I will be posting updated pics as he progresses through his rehab here. Hopefully we can get him back to working order and he can make someone a LOVELY partner! his conformation is actually quite nice and he has a very loving temperament.

You can see here the concavity (caved in) in the hoof... the coronet band is under extreme pressure and it ended up splitting.

Slippers front hooves before his first trim. Caked with crap and out at angles. June 30, 2010

A look at what was under there. The picture below you really can't make out too many landmarks of what SHOULD be there!

Can you see a difference?

The pictures are not in the best order, but you can get an idea of what they looked like at the start and how they are looking after the second trim. We are going on a 10 day trim cycle to modify the hooves slowly yet quick enough to alleviate more pain.
